I had just returned from a 6-week trip to Ireland, where it rained a lot! It made me realize how lucky I am with the weather in California, so I decided to give the back yard a make over and make it into a haven for relaxing. 

When it comes to designing from scratch, I struggle a little so working with BACQYARD on the landscape design was exactly what I needed. My landscape designer gave me clear and simple backyard landscape plans that were easy to work with. It was a 10/10 experience that has left my boyfriend and I very happy!

BACQYARD Review

BACQYARD is an online landscape design service that transforms your outdoor space. Their design team has helped design plans for small yards, big yards, and all budgets. BACQYARD offers 3 design packages (more on that below) and caters to your needs and preferences. All designs are custom and unique to you.

The design process was so quick and easy from a customer perspective. I found it very exciting waiting for the next step in the process.

As you’ll see from the BACQYARD before and after images below, we were given a stunning plan by the BACQYARD expert team! We are well on our way to a magical garden transformation.

Finding the Right BACQYARD Package

BACQYARD offer custom landscape design services for Front Yard, Back Yard and Entire Yard. We just focused on the back yard as our front yard is tiny! 

All of the packages include working 1:1 with a designer that is tailored to your style, region, and budget. You can work with your designer on at least one video call (the number of video calls depends on the package you choose). You’ll be able to provide feedback on your design plans and get a revised plan with your feedback incorporated.

You’ll get custom plant selections, layout, hardscaping, lighting design, and furniture recommendations. BACQYARD will also give you CAD drawings for installers and can provide a vetted contractor match in select areas. 

There are three types of packages to choose from: Classic package, Full package and Luxe package.

The main difference between the Classic package and the Full package is that the Full package has 3D renderings and allows two calls with your designer instead of one call offered in the Classic Package. 

I loved the 3D renderings with our Full package as it showed how the garden could really come to life. I was traveling when doing this project so I was able to complete my project without any calls. I documented what I wanted really well and I loved how the designs came out. I’d recommend the Full package for the 3D renderings. 

The Luxe package allows unlimited video calls and unlimited revisions. Both the Classic and Full packages are capped at one revision. One revision was plenty for me as the online designers took my feedback and created an innovative design that I LOVED!

The Full package is a great option overall. Although the price point is a little higher than the Classic package, it is worth it for the 3D renderings of your garden paradise.

BACQYARD Online Landscape Design Process

The BACQYARD design process was simple from start to finish.

Step 1: Choose your Design Package

Decide on your design package and get matched with a skilled principal designer, who will serve as your dedicated guide and collaborator throughout the process. You can choose your designer after reviewing their portfolio or you can let the BACQYARD team match you with a designer based on your vision. I chose the first designer that was available as they all had amazing designs in their portfolios. They all seemed like good options to me!

Step 2: Provide your Designer with Key Information

Fill out a form telling your designer about your vision for the garden. You’ll include the measurements of your yard, photos of the current yard, and detail any things that you want to get rid of. You can also tell your designer what you would like to keep and provide them with inspiration photos.

I created a Pinterest board quickly (it took a few minutes) to help myself understand what I wanted and also to help my designer understand. This is an optional step, however, a picture speaks 1,000 words after all.

Step 3: Receive your Initial Design

Your team will wow you with an unbelievable design! My designers gave me 2 designs. One that stuck to my budget of $5,000 and one that really showcased what the garden could be with extra investment. I was glad that they gave me these options as it showed me so many possibilities.

Step 4: Provide Feedback on your Design

I loved parts of both designs so I gave my designer feedback on what I liked from both designs. I also shared got them to swap a few things out. Giving feedback on the customer portal was so easy.

Step 5: Receive your Final Design

The design team came back with my updated designs about a week later. I LOVED them so much. I was wowed by the designs and amazed at this online landscape design service. As I mentioned, a call is included with all packages. I was traveling so skipped the call and used my Pinterest board and form to showcase what I wanted. I was so impressed that they went above and beyond what I thought was possible.

Step 6: Transform your Garden

You and/or contractors get to work on transforming your garden. One of my requests was that the design was DIY friendly as my dad was visiting and is a wizard at DIY. He helped with some of the changes and we got a contractor in to build our new deck.

BACQYARD can recommend vetted local contractors in some areas. We have a contractor that we use for projects so worked with him to build a new deck.

Before and After BACQYARD Photos

I have fully finished one corner of our new outdoor living space! A second corner is almost completed as well. I will be working on the rest over the coming weeks. The plants will also take a while to grow to the size of those in the pictures.

Our garden is a backyard dream for us. It was much easier to imagine this amazing yard space with the help of professional landscape design services. Their expert experience really shined through. We added a new deck to put my egg chair on. We bought a new lounge chair and we will also use the deck for yoga. The hammock can move around the garden as needed. This the biggest transformation that we implemented so far.

We re did the existing deck and added the rug suggested by the BACQYARD team. We also added a table and some accessories. We still have a little more design to do in this area. I want to get a fire pit that can act as a table also.

We were planning on getting rid of our existing table and chairs as the sun had really worn them out. My dad sanded them down and gave them a new coat of varnish. The look like new and saved us about $1,000 on a new, quality set.
