Kitchen on Fire Review – Virtual and in person bay area cooking classes (Berkeley and Oakland)
If you are looking for the best cooking classes in the bay area, keep reading on.
I had been looking up East bay cooking classes / Bay Area cooking classes and saw so many amazing Kitchen on Fire reviews. I was immediately drawn to Kitchen on Fire due to the rave reviews and the vast selection of cooking classes available.
In today’s blog post, I’m going to share all about both my fun virtual cooking class and my in person cooking class with Kitchen on Fire.
Kitchen on Fire Reviews – all about Kitchen on Fire
Before I get into all the details in my Kitchen on Fire review, I wanted to share a little about Kitchen on Fire.
Kitchen on Fire was founded in 2005 and has two kitchen classrooms located in Oakland and Berkeley.
Kitchen on Fire’s mission is to help integrate food into student’s lives that tastes good and is good for our bodies. Their vision of a successful cooking class is when their students leave the class better equipped.
As you’ll see below, Kitchen on fire is currently hosting in-person classes and events in their Berkeley location. This Kitchen on Fire review covers both my experiences with the in person class and the virtual class with Kitchen on Fire.
Kitchen on Fire virtual cooking classes
Kitchen on Fire host virtual cooking classes which are available around the world. As I mentioned above, I took part in a private virtual cooking class and was so so happy with my 2 hours of learning (& eating!).
My virtual cooking class was with Chef Olive and Lisa Miller, who is a Nutrition Consultant. The chef virtual cooking class was 2 hours long and we cooked 3 delicious items:
- Appetizer: Green Heart Gazpacho
- Main: Chicken Cacciatore
- Dessert: Avocado Cocoa Mousse
All three dishes were delicious. Throughout the virtual cooking class, Chef Olive and Nutritionist Lisa provided really interesting facts about the ingredients we were using. As I am a beauty and wellness influencer, they shared so much information on ingredients that are good for our skin and wellness. This part was so interesting and I was scribbling so many notes.
Throughout the Kitchen on Fire virtual cooking class, Chef Olive also shared so many helpful tips for around the kitchen. Everything from how to chop carrots to peppers and being mindful of hygiene in the kitchen.
The camera set up in the kitchen was so good. Seamlessly, Chef Olive switched from camera to camera so we could clearly see him chopping, a dish simmering away, and all the fresh ingredients. The virtual cooking class was so professional – I was so impressed.
The Kitchen on Fire virtual cooking class moved at the perfect pace, I didn’t feel rushed and I felt like I had enough time to stop and watch Chef Olive before quickly following suit.
I usually can get a little stressed in the kitchen (especially with 3 dishes in 2 hours!). This was not the case in this virtual cooking class. Chef Olive guided us through and I found myself laughing multiple times as the Chef has such a great personality. I rarely laugh in the kitchen so this was a first! I was pleasantly surprised with what I could cook with some guidance and laughter.
We did the Kitchen on Fire virtual cooking class on a Friday evening with Chef Olive and Lisa and it was such a great way to kick off the weekend. As you are already seeing from my Kitchen on Fire reviews, I highly recommend Kitchen on Fire virtual classes. You’ll leave with more confidence, knowledge and delicious food waiting to be gobbled!

My in person Kitchen on Fire review
I selected an in person Thai cooking class for my boyfriend and I. One of the most entertaining & fun evenings we have had in a group setting in quite some time! Chef Matt was our chef and he made us chuckle throughout the evening with his witty humor.
We cooked and prepared a total of 4 items. There was a table set up for each dish and we all got to help out on multiple dishes. We had a quick intro to the rules of the kitchen, followed by a quick run through on some of the more unusual ingredients that we were using. Then it was time to get to work!
We all had a print out of the recipe in front of us. Our chef came around to each table and told us exactly what to do with each ingredient. There were 11 people in the in person Kitchen on Fire class and everyone was very fun and friendly. We all took turns at stir frying, chopping and plating up dishes.
The Kitchen on Fire kitchens are so well equipment and the perfect size for the class. We cooked two of the items and then sat down to eat them. Kitchen on Fire encourages you to bring some wine or beer to enjoy throughout the night as you cook.
We washed our delicious food down with some wine. We all took time to chat and get to know each other over our freshly prepared Thai food! After taking some time, we got up again and cooked the final two meals. This only took about 10 minutes before we were sitting down munching again.
Time flew at the in person Kitchen on Fire class. The class was three hours in total and it felt like the perfect amount of time. This is a very positive Kitchen on Fire review! I highly recommend you treat yourself to this fun, in person cooking experience. If you love cooking, this is a great way to sharpen up your skills and perhaps try a new cuisine. If you are a beginner like me, it is the perfect class also as the chef was so good at explaining the steps and giving top tips.
As you can see from the photos from our in person cooking class, we had big smiles and had a very fun time! An amazing East Bay cooking class!
