I was lucky enough to spend two amazing days at the Fairmont Hotel in Sonoma. As you read through my Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa review, you will see just how special this luxury 5-star resort is. All of my photos from my trip make me want to instantly return to this Sonoma luxury resort.
My Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa Review
Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa is a Sonoma getaway with amenities galore, the friendliest staff and the most luxurious rooms.
Everything from check in to check out was a breeze at the Sonoma resort. I left the Fairmont haven, a rejuvenated and rested lady. The hotel grounds are immaculate with Spring blooms, palm trees and winding paths of greenery, which ease you into vacation mode instantly.
The Spanish style property has a way of quickly transporting you to another world. This 5 star resort is an hour away from San Francisco and minutes away from Sonoma Plaza. There are also so many famous wineries within a quick drive. The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa makes the perfect location for a quick getaway for a little pampering and relaxation.
The Rooms at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa
We stayed in a Mission Suite, which was absolutely heavenly. Our suite at this beautiful Fairmont Hotel was exactly what I needed and far MORE. The hotel room at the Fairmont Sonoma had an open floor plan along with a four-poster king bed, wood-burning fireplace, sofa-bed and oversized Jacuzzi tub. I repeat, a JACUZZI tub! Let me mention that I made full use of this heavenly addition to the room!
Being from Ireland, I love a good open fire! The Mission Suites have a REAL fireplace along with a bag of tricks ready for you to light. After dinner, we popped on the fire and had the coziest night in. Between the blazing fire, a four poster bed (which feels like sleeping in the clouds) and the bubbling jacuzzi, it was tricky to leave the property!
Our fabulous suite at the Fairmont hotel also had the most beautiful balcony on the 2nd floor, overlooking a gushing water fountain and the most gorgeous pink and white Spring blooms. I felt like I was transported to Spain while sitting on the balcony sipping a glass of champagne.
The suite was complete with a large walk in shower, his and hers sinks, a separate toilet along with the plushest bathrobes and lots of fabulous toiletries.
There are lots of different accommodations available at the Fairmont Sonoma to suit all tastes and different budgets including the Vineyard Suite, The Fairmont Suite and The Signature One Bedroom Suite.

Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa Pools Review
I became a little mermaid during my stay at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa and, let me tell you why. The water in the pools at this luxury Sonoma resort are geothermal mineral springs (also known as hot springs).
The thermal water at the Fairmont Sonoma comes from Boyes Hot Springs. The property was originally built in 1927 and was renovated in the late 20th century. Soon after, the source of the water was discovered more than 1,000 feet below the hotel! Today, water from the hot springs fill the pools at this luxury Sonoma resort.
There are lots of different pools at the hotel and the water temperature differs from pool to pool. The Watsu pool (my favorite!) is kept at body temperature. The indoor spa is a little warmer and the spa’s main pool is about 85°. All are perfectly warm for a lovely and relaxing time basking in the Californian sun.
Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa – Willow Stream Spa Review
The spa at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa is called the Willow Stream Spa. The Spa is heavenly and holds a top spot on my return-to list. Willow Stream spa is rated among Travel + Leisure’s top 25 spas and I can see exactly why. We used the pools at Willow Stream Spa for two days and I felt like a new person leaving.
As I mentioned above, the pools at the Willow Stream Spa are all filled with thermal mineral spring water. I love hot spring pools as they always make me feel so relaxed and rejuvenated.
Thermal mineral water was historically cherished by Native Americans for it’s healing power. The Watsu pool at Willow Stream Spa is one of the warmer pools. Relaxing spa music is played under the water so you can float about while listening to peaceful music. The spa is such a relaxing experience and the surrounding palm trees set the most beautiful scene for a heavenly Sonoma getaway.
There is also a Bathing Ritual at Willow Stream Spa. The Bathing Ritual includes an exfoliating shower, two mineral water soaking pools, herbal steam, dry sauna, and cool down showers. Sounds like a heavenly afternoon of relaxation to me!
There are also fitness classes to participate in – I skipped this as wanted a more relaxed getaway. The facilities look lovely from the brochures that I saw. The Willow Stream Spa also boasts an impressive list of treatments including stress recovery massage, relaxation massage and complete hydrafacial.
You can see all the fab treatments here
There is also a cute store on the property as you enter the spa. The store stocks lots of lotions and potions, along with thoughtful gifts.
While at the Spa, you can enjoy food and drinks from the Spa Cafe. The sun beaming down on my face was so glorious as I spent my days relaxing by the pool. The spa also has umbrellas if you prefer a little more shade.
Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa Restaurants Review
Let me start by saying there are LOTS of great options for dining at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast, some drinks and dinner at the hotel. All of our meals and dining experiences were very pleasant and delicious!
For our breakfast, we decided to have a relaxing morning in and got our tasty breakfast delivered to the room. The breakfast was delivered to the room in a picnic basket with a gingham picnic cloth draped over the basket. We ordered a scramble and an omelette with a tasty side of bacon and tater tots. Highly recommend all!
For dinner, we ate in Sante kitchen on the outdoor patio under a toasty heater. It was my boyfriend’s birthday so we celebrated by having a delicious meal.
I was also able to order a dessert and have the dessert come out with a candle. I picked the Tirimisu for dessert and it was delicious. The staff at the restaurant were so pleasant and helpful.
The CaliForno Food Truck is open at the hotel on Fridays & Saturdays from 4:30pm with live music 5:00pm – 8:00pm (weather permitting). Right beside this truck are lots of fire pits and sun chairs. Perfect for an evening of relaxing as the sun goes down.
Here is a comprehensive list of all the restaurants and dining options available at the Fairmont Sonoma:
- 38° North Wine Bar
- Water Tower Bar
- Santé Kitchen
- CaliForno Food Truck (as mentioned above)
- In-Room Dining
- Willow Stream Spa and Watsu Pools have a Spa Café with the friendliest staff

Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa Amenities Review
There are so many amenities on the property that it is hard to leave once you arrive! The Fairmont hotel charges a nightly resort fee and includes the following:
- Self-parking
- Unlimited basic internet access in guest rooms and resort public areas- wireless and wired
- Guest amenity kit including hand sanitizer, face mask and disinfecting wipes (this was such a thoughtful touch)
- Access to PressReader, newspaper app
- Use of bicycles (these looked so pretty!)
- Morning Coffee and Tea in the lobby
- Wine Country welcome bottle of wine (in-room)
- Daily wine tasting – pouring Sonoma and Napa’s finest daily each afternoon
- Local, domestic long-distance and toll-free calls
- Bottled water in guest room upon arrival
- In-room fitness video instruction
- Access to resort gym and fitness studio
- On-site shuttle service to Sonoma Plaza, Sonoma Golf Club (based on availability)
I really thought these extra amenities really added to the stay. The little touches throughout the hotel such as the welcome bottle of wine in the room, the hand sanitizer in the room, and the morning teas and coffees made such a lovely impression for me.
Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa Wine Tasting
As I mentioned, as part of the amenities, there is complimentary wine tasting for guests at the property each afternoon. We didn’t make it to the complimentary wine tasting as we were too cozy by the pool. It’s definitely such a great perk as some of the finest wines of Sonoma and Napa are brought to the table for tasting each afternoon.
If you want to do additional wine tasting, Castello di Amorosa is a beautiful castle winery that is in Napa Valley that I love! Read all about it here.
Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa Review
As you can tell from my Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa Review, we had the most amazing time. The hotel is less than an hour north of San Francisco, yet you feel like you are in a tropical oasis. I would highly recommend a memorable stay at the beautiful Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa.
It was such a luxurious and memorable stay for my boyfriend’s birthday. Every encounter with the team at the Fairmont Sonoma was so pleasant and they always went above and beyond.
