If you are looking for a luxury wine country escape, this Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa Review will tell you exactly what our stay was like. After three stays at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa, I can confidently say it is one of our favorite hotels for a romantic escape in the heart of Sonoma Valley.

We recently stayed for two nights in one of the Mission Suites to celebrate my fiancé’s birthday. This was the third time we celebrated his birthday here, which should tell you everything you need to know! We absolutely love this hotel. When you check in, it’s highly likely you’ll exhale, and never want to leave.

The Fairmont in Sonoma is set in the heart of wine country and is known for its geothermal pools, historic setting, daily wine tasting in the hotel lobby, and stunning spa.

The resort offers amazing wellness experiences at the Fairmont Spa and the property also offers a daily wine tasting from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the historic lobby. Their main restaurant, Santé, has just been renovated, is stunning, and offers delicious food!

Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa Review

As a quick spoiler before we get into the details of my Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa review, we loved our third stay!

The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa feels luxurious, romantic, and relaxing all at once. It has that cozy, old world feel that makes it perfect for slower weekends, while still having all the little luxuries you want from a luxury resort.

From the second we arrived, I was reminded why we keep coming back. The hotel lobby is so cozy, there are fireplaces and fire pits throughout the resort, the staff are incredibly friendly, and there are so many beautiful corners to relax in with a coffee, book, or glass of wine. It really is the perfect place to slow down.

One of my favorite things about this hotel stay is that you can wander or stay put. You can easily explore Sonoma County, the historic Sonoma Plaza, or visit nearby wineries.

Once you arrive, it is very tempting to stay at the resort and just enjoy the pools, the spa, the wine tasting, and the fine dining. That is exactly what we did!

The resort sits in Boyes Hot Springs and is built around ancient thermal mineral waters, with five naturally heated geothermal mineral pools and an adults-only spa experience.

The Monday of our stay was especially dreamy. We stayed Saturday and Sunday night, and by Monday the property felt even more peaceful. After breakfast in our room, I spent most of the day reading quietly at the spa pool and thinking to myself that this is exactly my kind of weekend away.

Mission Suite at the Fairmont Sonoma

We stayed in one of the Mission Suites and it was quite the room.

For a birthday trip or special occasion, I think the Mission Suites are worth it. Ours had a beautiful blend of classic luxury and comfort that the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa does so well. Think plush bedding, lots of space to spread out, a fireplace, a sitting area, and such a cozy atmosphere overall.

One of my favorite details was the fireplace. There is just something about a wood-burning fireplace and a glass of champagne in Sonoma that feels so good. Growing up in Ireland, we had two blazing fires at home most nights so a toasty fire always makes me feel right at home.

The suite also had french doors and lovely natural light, which made the whole room feel airy and peaceful during the day, and warm and romantic at night.

I also loved that the suite gave us enough space to really settle in. It felt more like a little retreat especially with the jacuzzi by the beautiful four poster bed.

We had room service breakfast delivered to our patio both mornings, and it was one of the most magical parts of the stay. Sitting outside in my robe, surrounded by garden views, enjoying breakfast in the fresh air was such a perfect way to begin each day.

The breakfast menu had so much choice. I loved having a mix of healthy options and treats. My favorites were the lemon ricotta pancakes, the fruit bowl, the fresh juice of the day, and the banana bread. It all felt so picturesque and relaxing.

Sante at the Fairmont Sonoma

Another highlight of this stay was seeing the newly remodeled Santé at the Fairmont Sonoma. It is absolutely stunning.

Santé is the resort’s signature restaurant, and the hotel has officially announced its reimagined new era for 2026. The refreshed concept is centered around refined, approachable cuisine inspired by Sonoma Valley and Northern California ingredients.

We celebrated my fiancé’s birthday dinner there one evening, and the whole experience felt very special. The room is beautiful, cozy, and luxurious.

We started with a delicious eggplant dip and freshly baked bread, which I would happily order again. For mains, we had lamb and fish, and both were beautifully done. Then, we finished with a crème brûlée, because a dessert is a must for a birthday dinner!

The property also has a strong dining focus beyond Santé, with additional bars and seasonal offerings on site. There are dining options at the pool and at the Fairmont Spa.

Fairmont Spa in Sonoma

The Fairmont Spa in Sonoma is one of the biggest reasons people book this resort, and I completely understand why.

If you have been here before, or have read older reviews, you may remember it as Willow Stream Spa. The spa is now called Fairmont Spa, and it remains one of the standout features of the hotel.

Fairmont Spa sits above ancient thermal mineral springs and includes five geothermal mineral pools plus a Roman-style bathhouse. The spa pool area is adults-only, and the resort also highlights wellness amenities like fitness classes and movement experiences.

There is something so special about soaking in hot springs in the heart of Sonoma wine country. The spa pools are so relaxing and it feels like a real wellness escape. The geothermal pools are a huge part of what makes this hotel stand out from other luxury resorts in Napa Valley and Sonoma County.

It is very easy to create the kind of weekend you need here, whether that is lounging by the resort pool, booking spa experiences, taking a guided yoga lesson, or simply doing absolutely nothing except moving between your room, the pool, and dinner (which I highly recommend).

After three stays, I can honestly say this is one of our favorite hotels for a romantic escape in Sonoma. We love the luxurious bedding, the fireplaces, the cozy lobby, the friendly staff, the daily wine tasting, the beautiful spa pools, and the feeling that everything you need is right there.

The resort is both luxurious and relaxing. The Fairmont team always makes us feel so welcome, and every stay reminds us why we keep returning. From birthday celebrations at Santé to slow mornings with breakfast on the patio to quiet afternoons by the pool, this hotel always delivers the kind of calm, relaxing weekend that I love.
