I have used both Olaplex and Prose for many years and want to give you my thoughts and insights on both hair care brands. I first used Olaplex in early 2020 and I first used Prose in 2018. I continue to use both Prose and Olaplex for different reasons. You can use both Olaplex and Prose in your hair care routine, it doesn’t have to be one or the other.
Key things to know when deciding on Prose v Olaplex
Prose Personalized hair care
When deciding on Prose v Olaplex, it is important to know that Prose is a personalized hair care brand, which takes into consideration all of your hair goals.
In order to receive your customized Prose hair products, you need to take a quiz, which will take you through your hair goals and different environmental factors e.g. what zipcode you live in, whether you exercise a lot, how many hours you spend outside.
The Prose quiz also has a section to find out if you have thick hair, fine hair or something in between. Prose hair care can be customized for your particular hair care.
The Prose quiz is a really cool way to have hair products made specifically for your unique hair goals and hair needs. If your hair goals are more hydration, less frizz, growth and shine, you can add all the detail to your Prose hair care so these can be taken into consideration during formulation.

When comparing Olaplex v Prose, it is good to look into the type of products that you are looking for. Whether you go with Prose or Olaplex, you will find the usual suspects like shampoo, conditioner, hair masks, hair oils.
Prose has some newer launched products which Olaplex does not have. Prose has a personalized scalp mask, leave-in conditioner, curl cream and their well known Prose hair supplements.

Olaplex does not have a leave-in conditioner, any scalp products, supplements or cream specifically for curls. Olaplex does have Olaplex 6 as a styling product for all hair types. It is not specifically for curly hair, yet it works great on my curly, frizz prone hair.
On the flip side when comparing Prose v Olaplex, Olaplex does have a product for a blonde enhancer and some very unique bond building products. While Prose does have a wider range of products, Olaplex has every product that you need except for a scalp mask and hair supplements.

Olaplex Bond Builders
When comparing Olaplex, is it easy to think Prose is better as it is customizable for your hair goals. Olaplex has amazing patented technology which works on absolutely all hair types as hair strands have bonds and Olaplex works to repair bonds. It’s easy to rebuild broken hair bonds and restore your hair with Olaplex products.
To get technical…
Olaplex’s unique and patented chemistry starts with a single active ingredient, Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate.
Olaplex works by finding single sulfur hydrogen bonds and cross linking them back together to form disulfide bonds. Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate supports broken and weakened bonds.
The patented Olaplex Bond Building technology works on a molecular level to repair damaged and broken bonds. Olaplex repairs the broken bonds and rejuvenates the hair. Olaplex also increases tensile strength and restores elasticity. Olaplex also works to protect the hair follicle from further breakage. It is important to note that Olaplex is not a protein treatment. It is a bond builder and a bond multiplier.
Olaplex hair products are really good for really strengthening your hair and repairing damage. I will go into which is better Prose or Olaplex below as it does depend partially on your hair concern.

Prose v Olaplex – how much product is needed
It is important to note that whether you are using Prose or Olaplex, a little bit goes a long way. Only use a small amount of each product as that is all that is needed. Both Prose and Olaplex are really high quality so a little bit of each product is all you need for results.
Prose v Olaplex Scent
Along with customizing your hair care, Prose also allows you to pick from about 8 Prose scents when you near the end of your Prose quiz. This is such a fun way to customize your hair care. The Prose scents are so lovely (except one).

Olaplex has the one fixed scent on all of their products and I love it. As salons use Olaplex worldwide, your hair smells like a trip to the salon each time you wash it with Olaplex.
I love both scents from Prose and Olaplex. It is important to note that both companies use essential oils. Some people don’t like essential oils in their products. I personally love essential oils but wanted to include this point for others who may not share such a love for essential oils.

Prose v Olaplex – Best hair care for Curly hair
If you are reading this portion and have curly hair, then you know that it takes special hair products for us curly ladies.
As I mentioned above at the beginning of this Olaplex v Prose blog post, I use both Olaplex and Prose hair care products.
Curly hair can get damaged very easily through mechanical wear and tear e.g. brushing those knots out too harshly, tangled curls etc.
Olaplex 3 is Olaplex’s best selling haircare product and is amazing for curly hair. Olaplex 3 is a hair treatment that has won so many awards. The first time I used Olaplex No.3, I noticed a difference in my hair.
Olaplex 3 repairs bonds in every hair type whether you have thick hair, fine hair, curly hair, wavy hair or straight hair. For curly hair, this is so beneficial as our damaged hair can be repaired easily. When you have damaged hair, curls may be limp, lifeless and frizzy. Olaplex No.3 protects the hair follicles from further breakage.
Olaplex No 3 brings my curls back to life. This Olaplex treatment is one of the best haircare products that I have ever tried.

I believe that Olaplex 3 trumps any Prose hair care product if you can only invest in one hair care product at the moment. Olaplex 3 takes 10 minutes to apply to damp hair prior to shampoo each week. If you can invest in a 2nd product, then I definitely think Prose hair care is great for curly hair too.
Olaplex 8 is a great hydrating hair mask. It works to hydrate, whereas Olaplex 3 works to repair. Olaplex 8 is the first hair mask that Olaplex has brought out.

I love Prose curl cream and use it on top of Olaplex 6. I have very wild hair so I need to use a lot of product to keep my curls defined and frizz free.
I have used both Prose and Olaplex shampoos, conditioners and masks and love them both.
I would highly recommend Prose’s scalp mask for curly hair. As those with curly hair often use a lot of product, it is good to use a scalp mask to remove product build up and do a deep clean of the scalp. Olaplex do not currently have a scalp mask.
Prose v Olaplex – Best hair care for hair growth
Olaplex is not formulated to treat thinning hair, hair loss, or promote new growth. However, it will keep the hair you have healthy, strong & prevent breakage. I do love Olaplex 3 for ensuring existing damaged hair is repaired. It takes 10 minutes once per week. Apply to damp hair before shampooing.
Prose and Olaplex both have great products to maintain healthy hair.
Prose has specific hair supplements to help with hair growth.
Prose v Olaplex – Best hair care for dry hair
If you have dry hair, then Prose or Olaplex have specific hair masks for treating dry hair. When comparing both Prose v Olaplex for dry hair, both are comparable. Olaplex 8 is the best Olaplex product to choose if you have dry hair. Prose pre shampoo mask or leave in conditioner are good options for keeping your hair hydrated.
Using hair color really dries out hair so if you color your hair, always use a good hydrating treatment or hydrating mask to ensure you have lots of moisture. Dry hair is more prone to breakage and damage.

Either Prose or Olaplex are good for dry hair.
Prose v Olaplex – Best hair care for colored hair
Olaplex is traditionally known for reviving colored hair that has been damaged. Olaplex was first sold in salons across the world before retailers like Sephora started carrying the hair care brand. Due to the bond builder explained above, Olaplex does wonders for colored hair. My sister has blond hair that can often feel brittle and she swears by Olaplex.
Olaplex closes the hair cuticle and lowers porosity in the hair allowing the color to adhere longer. This means less fading and fewer visits to the salon for glosses.
When you are taking the Prose quiz, they have a specific section on colored hair. You can choose your hair goals on Prose to specifically help with your colored hair.
When comparing Olaplex v Prose, both are great hair care options for colored hair.
Prose v Olaplex – Best hair care for hair loss
Olaplex is not formulated to treat thinning hair, hair loss, or promote new growth. However, it will keep the hair you have healthy, strong & prevent breakage.
As mentioned above, Prose has specific hair supplements for hair loss and hair growth.
Other than that, it is important to keep your scalp healthy for promoting new hair growth.

I love the Prose scalp mask. I use a scalp mask once per week to ensure my scalp is healthy and also to remove product build up.
More top tips to keep your hair in amazing condition
Hair is most vulnerable when it is wet so it is important that you treat it with care when drying it (no vigorous hair drying with a towel)! I love the new Cozy Earth hair towel. It ties neatly on your head and allows the water to soak into the towel with no rubbing. This saves your hair mechanical damage. My Cozy Earth discount code CE-LORNA gets you 40% off everything on Cozy Earth including this hair towel.
I also LOVE their new silk pillowcase. It is so soft and gentle on your hair. Friction with cotton also causes breakage so a silk pillowcase is a great investment. Silk pillowcases also help with reducing frizz. Curly hair tends to get frizzy with the friction of cotton, but silk will help the hair glide instead. You can get this silk pillowcase for 40% off using my Cozy Earth discount code CE-LORNA for a limited time. Read more about the benefits of silk pillowcases.
Olaplex v Prose Overall results
As you can see, when comparing Olaplex v Prose, there are some differences to consider. I love both hair care brands and use both regularly.
I have had great results with both Prose and Olaplex. As I mentioned above, I use both Olaplex and Prose products for my hair. It doesn’t have to be Prose or Olaplex as they can both be incorporated into your hair care routine.
You will see results with both of these hair care brands. They are both quality hair care brands that really deliver results. You will see a hair journey once you start using each of these hair brands.
